During Dariusz Popiela's "People, not Numbers" project in Czarny Dunajec, Wojciech Szumowski, director, producer, documentary filmmaker, and two-time winner of the Grand Press award in the category of television reportage, became interested in the topic of commemorating the Jewish inhabitants of southern Poland.
The director was present with a camera during many events related to the project in Czarny Dunajec, he observed the work of volunteers up close, and even joined the activities himself as an informal member of the group. The result of many hours spent at the Jewish cemetery, but also during conversations with volunteers, residents of Czarny Dunajec, is the feature-length documentary film "Edge of Light". The production was created thanks to the financial support of the "Tygodnik Powszechny" foundation.
The film had its official premiere in June 2021 at the Krakow Film Festival, and was also shown in many cities in Poland and abroad, including in Israel, USA and Germany. He received the Special Award of the Kamera Dawida foundation at the 20th Warsaw Jewish Film Festival. During the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Holocaust, the film was also shown in Czarny Dunajec.
