This year, commemorations dedicated to the memory of Jews who died during the Holocaust will take place in Czarny Dunajec on Wednesday, August 28. This is an important date in the history of our town, which marks the symbolic end of the region's Jewish community. On August 28, 1942, the last Jews from Czarny Dunajec had to leave their hometown, and a few days later they were transported by train in terrible conditions from Nowy Targ to the extermination camp in Bełżec, where they all died. Few Jews from our area survived, and those who returned after the war either left quickly or died.
At the Jewish cemetery we will honor the memory of those who died during the Holocaust and read their names and surnames. After the ceremony at the cemetery, a meeting with the descendants of the survivors and a concert by cantor Ryfka Foremniak in the synagogue are planned. This year, we also plan to broadcast the ceremony live on the Internet.
