About the author

Michał Szaflarski, local activist from Czarny Dunajec, in 2016 started an annual action to clean up the Jewish cemetery in his town, for several years he has been documenting the history and restoring the memory of the Jewish community from Czarny Dunajec. In 2020, he joined the project "People, Not Numbers" led by Dariusz Popiela, as part of which a monument to the victims of the Holocaust from Czarny Dunajec and the surrounding area was erected at the Jewish cemetery. During the project, he described the stories of Jewish families and established contacts with the descendants of Jews from Czarny Dunajec.

He actively works for the Polish-Jewish dialogue, since 2022 he has been in contact with representatives of the Matte Asher commune from Israel and with the descendants of Jews from Czarny Dunajec from the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Israel, Denmark and Poland. Finalist of the POLIN Award 2022 competition organized by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. Creator of the digital archive of the Jewish community from Czarny Dunajec and co-organizer of the commemoration of the Holocaust in Czarny Dunajec events.
